Metadata.

The word is increasingly to be found bandied about amongst the Web cognoscenti, but what exactly is it, and is it something that can be of value to you and your work? This article aims to explore some of the issues involved in metadata and then, concentrating specifically upon the Dublin Core, moves on to show in a non-technical fashion how metadata may be used by anyone to make their material more accessible. A collection of references at the end of the article provides pointers to some of the current work in this field.
