The changing role of staff development
The sector reforms of the past decade have had a considerable impact on teachers and trainers.

This research report examines current Australia-wide staff development provision and makes recommendations for the new education and training environment.

Different pattens exist in the approaches of public and private VET providers to staff development. An important difference is in expectations of teachers/trainers on appointment. Private providers prefer to recruit already qualified staff, while TAFE is more prepared to allow staff to complete qualifications following appointment.

This report found that staff development provisions appear to be inadequate to meet demand, and that there is a need to improve the participation rate in the staff development programs available. It concludes with 8 recommendations and identifies areas for further research.
