Fairfax County Public Schools has created a group entirely devoted to Web technologies. Among the very first goals of the Web Technology Group was to develop guidelines and standards for Web development by staff, teachers, and students, and to provide a strategic vision for the purchase and implementation of Web server platforms, tools, and technologies.

This article discusses their success in developing standards for portable code, web development tools, infrastructure and database tools for the whole district.
