Embark on Leadership

Change management and leadership skills can take many different forms. Here's a left field approach to Leadership

Squirrel Inc. A fable in leadership through storytelling by Steven Denning. The first few chapters are available for reading online at Steven's website. (see link above)

Steven recently presented an 'Organisational Storytelling' workshop for us in Melbourne and he introduced us to the seven different types of storytelling:

  1. Storytelling to reveal who you are and build trust
  2. Storytelling to get individuals to work together
  3. Storytelling to transmit values
  4. Storytelling to tame the grapevine
  5. Storytelling to share knowledge
  6. Storytelling to create a future
  7. Storytelling to ignite action.

Steven says, in his latest book, ..."Leaders who don't understand the different narrative patterns are likely to stumble into the wrong kind of story..." Steven also believes that ..."once we glimpse the power of storytelling, we may imagine that we have stumbled on a panacea - a universal solution".
