"Exploration, realization and integration of blended learning for diverse and remote learners"
Organisation
Insurance Australia Group (IAG) is the largest general insurance group in Australia and New Zealand. It provides personal and commercial insurance products including NRMA Insurance, SGIO, CGU, Swann Insurance, and State. Insurance Australia Group is organised into separate Business Units (for example Sales & Marketing, Personal Insurance, Culture and Reputation). Each business unit is responsible for the learning and development of their designated employees.
Insurance Australia Group has its own Enterprise Registered Training Organisation through which IAG is able to issue nationally recognized qualifications mainly in Financial Services, Business Services and Telecommunications. The RTO operates at a corporate level and adopts a collaborative approach to RTO activities in association with the various Business Units.
Context
IAG initiated the concept by applying for LearnScope Funding in NSW as a vehicle to assist in delivering training to rural employees throughout NSW. IAG applied as an Enterprise RTO under the rural and remote target client group category outlined in the LearnScope Guidelines. Interested business units and the RTO team collaborated on the project’s objectives, outcomes, rationale and high level learning events.
Two business units, Sales & Marketing (S&M) and Personal Insurance (PI) agreed to participate and sponsor the project. The project’s aims are to develop the skills and knowledge of a diverse group of learning professionals in exploring, realising and integrating blended learning solutions within an accredited learning pathway offered to a diverse and remote client group. Due to the nature of the location of these client groups, they have limited exposure to learning opportunities within IAG. Both business units indicated their intent to offer flexible and blended learning opportunities to these client groups and the project aligns with IAG’s business objectives.
