LearnScope state and territory managers have identified the following as key factors for getting the most from LearnScope funded projects. This guide has been created to assist team project managers to plan for success.
Project Planning
A project plan which represents the joint effort of all members of the LearnScope project team will establish genuine ownership of the project. It must identify all the components of planning as well as an overall team learning plan.
Project Management
The nominated Project Manager must have appropriate skills and experience in project management to ensure the Project Plan is developed and implemented.
Stages of a Project
Participants in LearnScope projects need to be clear about the various stages within the project life cycle. These stages include planning, learning, application of skills, critical analysis and evaluation.
Organisational Support
Managers of the organisation must provide appropriate support and resources and articulate the significance of the project in achieving organisational goals.
Facilitation
The role of the learning facilitator is probably the most crucial of all roles associated with work-based learning in assisting the team to achieve its goals. A good facilitator can help even the most inexperienced team achieve extraordinary outcomes.
Team composition and support
The identification and articulation of team member and support people roles need clarification. Support people may include a librarian, technical support, mentor, trainer, project manager, facilitator or manager.
Learning Plans
Planning for learning is as critical as planning to complete a task or project. Learning Plans must initially result from being clear on what the project is about and what needs to be done in order to achieve the outcomes. With this in mind the development of individual learning plans assists the learner to clarify what needs to be learned, preferred processes for learning, resources required and an evaluative process for measuring the success of the learning.
Readiness
All stakeholders in the process need to be “ready” for the project. This includes the organisation, its managers and key decision makers as well as individual team members within the LearnScope project. To gain the maximum benefit from LearnScope projects, teams need to be prepared (and empowered) to apply the learning in the work environment.
Realistic Expectations
As part of the planning process it is critical that the outcomes and planning take into account timeframes, resources available and participant availability.
Good luck to all 2003 teams. We look forward to reading about your adventures and achievements in Show and Tell in the coming year.
This makes the 'selling' of the project and its outcomes more tangible!
