Instructional Design Elearning Checklist

This checklist provides a useful model for developing elearning content.

Step1: Needs Assessment

Review information regarding organisation and purpose of program

  • Review proposal / project documentation
  • Undertake learning needs analysis
  • Interview Subject matter expert and / or sponsor
  • Review client documentation / system
  • Identify dominant learning styles
  • Analyse data

Outcome - Learning Needs analysis

Step 2: Learning Design

Determine Learning Strategy

  • Consult Graphical Designer regarding graphical requirements for project.
  • Identify Learning Outcomes
  • Identify assessment tasks / process
  • Identify evaluation strategy
  • Obtain client sign off on Learning Plan

Outcome - Agreed Learning Plan

Step 3: Development

Prepare Storyboard (completed as iterative process)

  • Develop draft storyboard
  • Client review of storyboard
  • Amendment of storyboard by Instructional Designer
  • Client sign off on Storyboard

Concurrent Activity

  • Development of online learning content
  • Review of online learning content against
    storyboard
  • Client sign off on final program

Outcome - Storyboard, Online Learning program

Step 4: Implementation

  • Pilot program with target audience (optional)
  • Implement program within organisation.

Outcome - Final program

Step 5: Evaluation

Evaluate effectiveness of program

  • Level 1 - audience reaction to program
  • Level 2 - transfer of learning
  • Level 3 - Changed behaviours
  • Level 4 - Organisational gains resulting from program
