Consider the power of the digital story, the narrative and moving images, as the method for creating innovative educational content. Some practitioners are currently planning using the digital storytelling methodology as the formula for engagement with learners and creating popular content.
DST or digital storytelling can provide a 'new' method for learning a new task, doing an assignment, creating a portfolio or completing an assessment. If you want to re-engage with your learners, then consider the power of the story.
I've attached some slides here for sharing that gives a broad overview of the process for Creating a Digital Story.
Recently I was once again reminded of the power of the story as a catalyst for learning new skills whilst assisting at Wodonga TAFE in NE Victoria. Mark Chaston, Wodonga TAFE's LearnScope manager, provided a quick course in 'digital storytelling' for a group of learners during FLW. Within an hour each member of the group had constructed a short digital story using Photo Story Plus!
This experience sparked a number of new ideas for applying the DST methodology within the group.
Have you got a few digital photos; with a story to tell? If you're running Windows XP you have a copy of Movie Maker. It's relatively easy to learn, just like Photo Story Plus. Download the attached powerpoint and you'll be on your way in no time.
