How to get a CD to auto-run

This Q&A is based on an interaction that took place in the Ask a Techo forum 2 August 2004.

Ok, so here’s the scenario. Your remote students have internet access problems so you send some of your course material in web-type format on CD. The problem is getting the CD to open automatically so the students don’t have to search and open it through Windows Explorer or their web browser.

Here's the answer:

If there’s an autorun file in the root directory of your CD it will run any commands under the [autorun] section, including any executable files, including Internet explorer:
[autorun]
open=IEXPLORE.EXE index.htm

A freeware program which might help you is Autorun.inf Maker
