Make your own screen dump movies

This article is based on an interaction that took place in the Ask a Techo forum.

In How to capture screen dumps we focussed on getting a still image. Imagine how much more useful it would be to capture a “movie” of what’s happening on your screen.

The first product we would recommend is called SnagIt . It makes AVI movies out of whatever is happening on your screen.  I've seen it used it for induction tutorials and "how to navigate" type things and it's pretty good. You can download a free demo at http://www.vnunet.com/Download/1124535  - then you can purchase a full version if you like it for about $40.

Alternately you could try an open source product called Cam Studio which has had lots of positive feedback and comment in the Community - download it from  http://sourceforge.net/projects/camstudio/

Finally, RoboDemo is another capable program recommended by members and although it does cost it certainly provides you with an easy way of 'demonstrating' navigation and mouse clicks in any program or website. You can find out more about their software and even use their free trial offer for a month at: http://www.ehelp.com/products/robodemo/
