Learning Strategies @ Swinburne TAFE
E-trade - Buy, sell and trade online
What is it?
E-trade is a simulation of an online trading cycle. It allows current Swinburne students to participate in:
- Online banking.
- Online purchasing.
- The trading in of second-hand goods.
- Secure transactions and security certificates.
Why bother?
E-trade was developed at Swinburne University, TAFE Divison in response to new requirements within a number of units of:
Certificates III and IV in eBusiness.
- BSBEB304A - Buy online
- BSBEB305A - Sell online
- BSBEB306A - Make payments online
- BSBEB307A - Bank online
- BSBEB404A - Trade online
These units require active participation in the online trading cycle. We felt that it was inappropriate to expect that students would use their own credit cards and participate in legitimate ebusiness activity.
It was decided to develop a functional prototype that would simulate this activity in a safe and secure environment, following recognised etrading rules.
How does it work?
E-trade uses a number of technologies:
- HTML for content.
- CSS for presentation.
- Flash for the dynamic rendering and visual presentation of the SwineCard.
- Coldfusion for functionality and database integration.
- Access database for record keeping.
Can I play?
We have created accounts for demonstration purposes. Login information is explained in future pages.
